Your first time in a professional studio can generate nerves and expectations. It's completely normal. Here I tell you exactly what happens during a recording session so you arrive prepared and enjoy the experience to the fullest.

Before arriving at the studio

1. Prior communication

Before the session, we'll talk about your project: what you want to record, how many songs, what style you're looking for. This allows me to prepare the studio and have everything ready when you arrive.

2. Send references

It's very helpful if you share songs you like as a sound reference. This way I better understand the direction you want and can prepare the right approach.

3. Prepare your material

Bring your song well rehearsed. If you already have a demo, share it. If you're coming with a backing track, make sure you have it in good quality (WAV or MP3 320kbps minimum).

The day of the session: step by step

1

Arrival and welcome

I welcome you to the studio, show you the space and explain how everything works. Take a few minutes to relax and feel comfortable. There's no rush.

2

Technical setup

I prepare the microphones, adjust levels and configure your headphone mix. I'll ask how you want to hear yourself: more voice, more track, with or without reverb. Everything adapts to your comfort.

3

Warm-up and tests

We do some test takes so you get used to the microphone and environment. This is your chance to warm up your voice and feel the space.

4

Recording

We record the song in sections or complete, depending on what works best. We usually do several takes and then choose the best parts from each one.

5

Review and adjustments

We listen together to what was recorded. If something doesn't convince you, we repeat it. The goal is for you to leave satisfied with your performance.

What to bring to your first session

Water and snacks

Bring room temperature water and something light to eat. Sessions can last several hours.

Your song lyrics

Even if you know them by heart, having them at hand reduces stress and lets you focus on emotion.

Your track or instrumental

If recording over a track, bring it on USB or send it beforehand by email. WAV format is ideal.

Positive attitude

Come with energy and willingness. The studio is a creative space where good vibes show in the recordings.

Frequently asked questions from new artists

  • How many takes do I need? It depends on each person. Some achieve a great take quickly, others prefer several options. There's no correct number.
  • Can I bring companions? Yes, but I recommend a maximum of 1-2 people. Too many people can distract you or make you nervous.
  • What if I make a mistake? Nothing! Making mistakes is part of the process. We simply repeat. There's no pressure.
  • Can I hear how I'm doing? Of course, after each take or section we can listen together and decide if we continue or repeat.
  • How long does a session last? For a song with vocals, generally 2-4 hours. But it depends on complexity and your preparation.

Tips to make the most of your session

  • Trust the process: The producer is there to help you. If they give you directions, it's to bring out the best in you.
  • Communicate what you feel: If you need a break, if something makes you uncomfortable, if you want to try something different — say it. Communication is key.
  • Don't over-criticize yourself: Your recorded voice sounds different from how you hear it in your head. It's normal. Trust what the producer tells you.
  • Enjoy the moment: Recording your music is something special. Beyond the nerves, try to enjoy the experience.

Your first recording session is the start of an exciting journey. With proper preparation and an atmosphere of trust, you'll be surprised at what you can achieve. The studio is not an intimidating place — it's where your music comes to life.
